Friends I have a problem and I don’t see it going away anytime soon. I love antique furniture! I know that I can’t possibly bring home every furniture piece that I find but my husband and I joke that I’ll be the little old lady with floor to ceiling antiques, dodging them with every step I take much like Mrs. Kim from Gilmore Girls. My heart just adores them. I would pick an old, classic vintage or antique furniture piece over a new one any day of the week. I love knowing that it has a history and that it had a story long before I brought it home. If only old furniture could talk! Lets face it, furniture was just made better back in the day too. I think you know how this story ends. I came, I went and I brought home an antique cane bench!<\/p>\n

I often shop a local consignment store when I’m looking for older items and boy does it never disappoint! I have found many things over the years there but this one might be one of my favorites.\u00a0 I wasn’t looking for a bench when I went in but couldn’t pass it up once I laid my eyes on it.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Look at that 70’s fabric! Although, a little garish it’s actually in immaculate condition. Don’t worry, it’s not staying! I did removed the cover from one of the cushion the other day and the original fabric is underneath. It’s a velvet-ish fabric in brown and gold. The cushions themselves have springs which I thought was kinda interesting.<\/p>\n

Not too long ago I moved the upholstered bench that was at the foot of our bed to our dining room to dress it up a bit. This bench is a little longer and not quite is tall as the last one. It’s really quite perfect for this spot!<\/p>\n

I fell in love with the subtle details. The carvings on the back are simple but so elegant.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

The legs are one of the first things I look at when furniture shopping. I love finding pieces that have unique legs. They have the potential to add so much character.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Let’s talk game plan! My plan is to recover the cushions in a neutral fabric because I change out my bedding frequently and want to make sure the bench works with it. I looked at several different fabrics, all pretty similar and as shocked as I was I decided to give drop cloth a shot. I was a little skeptical to recover this beauty in drop cloth but after watching my friend Lisa’s bleaching drop cloth how-to<\/a> I decided to give it a shot. Friends, it turned out great! The fabric is soft and the loveliest creamy white color. I’m really excited to work with it. I’m now brewing up some holiday pillow ideas too!<\/p>\n

I’m dying to get started. I’ll keep you all posted on the progress over the next few weeks so stay tuned!<\/p>\n
