Fall has finally arrived to north Georgia and this gal couldn’t be happier! The past two days have been glorious with temperatures only in the 70’s. The leaves are charging outside my windows and for the first time in months as embarrassed as I am to admit it, I managed to wear sweat pants around the house for an entire day. Goals, right? My happy weather has finally arrived, so it only seems fitting that I share a little fall decor with you guys today! I’m not alone because a few friends are also joining us and sharing their DIY fall decor with you. So be sure to hope on over to each one and say hello once you leave here.<\/p>\n

I’m not so sure my project warrants a tutorial but being that it was my first time making a pine cone tassel, maybe it’ll be your first time too.<\/p>\n

Did you see my fall home tour<\/a><\/strong> yet? I’ve put very little effort into my fall decor this year. Basically because I adore fall and I didn’t want to spend the entire season stressing over the house. I chose more natural elements that didn’t need a lot of dressing up. One simple yet elegantly understated item to decorate with this time of the year are pine cones! If your yard is anything like mine you have an abundance of them. If not, any local craft store should sell them. I’m a little hesitant to say that I may have been so lazy that instead of gathering a few from my yard I might have bought these at a craft store… but hey, they smell like cinnamon!<\/p>\n

All my close friends know that I’m a Martha Stewart junkie. I have been every since I was young. I remember watching her day time show everyday when I was out of school for summer break. I have almost all of her books and a large collection of her magazines, some dating back to the early 90’s.\u00a0 Her personal life aside, the woman is a homemaking genius! What I’ve always admired about her is that her designs stand the test of time. They’re timeless. These days I’ve been craving timeless. I don’t want to chase trends. It’s exhausting! With that said, our timeless fall project today is a pine cone tassel. These babies aren’t going out of style. Sprinkle a little glitter on them and they’ll take ya right into Christmas!<\/p>\n

How to Make a Pine Cone Tassel<\/h2>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Collect your pine cones. I bought medium sized pines cones that have a lovely cinnamon scent. If you have them, the longer skinny pine cones work great for this project! Start by taking twine cut to about 26″ long and wrap it around the base of the pine cone and tie it. Cut off the end of the twine and tuck the knot inside the pine cone as much as possible.<\/li>\n
  2. Repeat step 1 until you have at least 9 pine cones completed. Lay them out biggest to smallest.<\/li>\n
  3. Starting with the largest pine cone at the bottom, take the next two largest in size and hold them just above the bottom pine cone so that they’re staggered. (I found it easiest to do while I was holding the strings with the pine cones hanging.) Continue staggering them until you get to the smallest pine cone. Once your smallest pine cone it at the top, tie all the pieces of twine together in a knot. Take the excess of twine, make a loop for hanging and cut off the rest.<\/li>\n
  4. Add a simple bow with your ribbon of choice. Here’s a great tutorial for a simple bow.<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    It just might be the easiest fall decor ever! It only took me about 30 minutes to make. You could even use floral wire instead of twine if you have it on hand. I also thought about hot gluing ribbon to the bottoms of the pine cones instead of using twine but I didn’t have quite enough ribbon in the right size, so that might be a project for later this year.<\/p>\n

    It’s simple yet so cute! There’s nothing quite like walking into your foyer and having the sweet smell of cinnamon lingering in the air. It’s just the epitome of fall.<\/p>\n
