Fall might be the prettiest season in my book. Not only do I love enjoying the beautiful colors outside, I love all of the pretty pumpkins and textures inside. This year I’ve really kept things pretty simple, but that’s what’s so great about fall. It doesn’t really take anything fancy. You can decorate with items that are just in season! I recently added a simple & elegant fall vignette to my dining room using just a few natural elements. I did mix in a faux pumpkin and I’m really excited to share the natural color mixes with you that I’ve made!<\/p>\n

A Simple Fall Vignette<\/h2>\n

I don’t know what it is about those little white pumpkins that I love. For under a dollar they’re a great buy. I plan on saving the stems this year from the real pumpkins to add to my faux pumpkins next year. It just adds a little more natural look.<\/p>\n

I recently purchased a few sets of gold silverware<\/a><\/strong>. I’m completely smitten! People either love gold or hate it. If you haven’t noticed already I kinda love it!<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

You probably know already that I’m a true believer of grocery store flowers if you read last week’s post on decorating with them<\/a>. These stock flowers were under $3 and with a few clippings from the yard, they’re perfect for a fall setting!<\/p>\n

Lets talk about giving those fake pumpkins a more natural look. Those bright orange, faux pumpkins are everywhere these days. I’m all for an orange pumpkin as along as it’s real but most of those faux pumpkins scream fake! I’m going to share my favorite paint combinations that I’ve mixed up to give them a natural color. Hang in there. I used colors I already had on hand so they’re from several brands.

Here’s my orange beauty’s before-<\/p>\n

For the soft, muted orange-peach color I mixed up the paint colors below. These paints can be found at Target. Start with a generous amount of the lightest orange and add small amounts don the others until you get it just right. I mixed my colors up in just a piece of cardboard. Tape around the stem and brush it on! Mixing the paints was trial and error for me. The combinations are really endless! I used just a couple, inexpensive craft brushes<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n

From left to right they are called-<\/p>\n

Creamsicle \/ Orange \/ Malted Milk \/ Caramel<\/p>\n

For a soft white I mixed-<\/p>\n

Caramel and Warm White.\u00a0<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

For a pale mint I mixed –<\/p>\n

Basil green<\/strong><\/a> with Porcelain Doll<\/a><\/strong> and a small amount of Slate Gray.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

For the deeper green I mixed Porcelain Doll<\/a><\/strong>, Basil Green<\/a><\/strong> and Yesteryear chalky paint<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

You can also add a little antiquing wax to age the pumpkins. I Did this to the larger green pumpkin and the smaller orange one. Dry brush it onto the pumpkin and almost immediately wipe it off with a rag or paper towel. Work in small sections. I also used stain blocker<\/strong><\/a> on my pumpkins. It did extend the drying time on the paint but I didn’t \u00a0want to deal with any colors bleeding through.<\/p>\n

I can’t wait to get some real stems on them. They’ll be used for years to come!<\/p>\n

Aren’t those velvet pumpkins<\/strong><\/a> adorable? I purchased them last year and they’re still one of my favorite fall decor items.<\/p>\n

This is one of those projects you can get the kids involved with. I gave my four year a couple mini pumpkins to paint while I painted mine and he was over the moon to know he was helping. He picked green and blue for his little pumpkins and as you can imagine they really looked as those a four year old had painted them but we had a blast doing it.
