It’s week 4 of the One Room Challenge<\/a><\/span> and this week I’m absolutely thrilled to be sharing our progress with you guys. This is the first week that I have started to see my vision coming to life and I’m completely over the moon! The space as been transforming slowly and I feel like we’re finally on a good roll. It’s all coming together.<\/p>\n

So what’s new this week? Well, last week I shared that we had planked the ceiling. This past weekend we also built a floor to ceiling utility cabinet that will hold our ironing board, broom, mops, vacuum and all those extra things like toilet paper, light bulbs, etc. I wish I had a picture of the shaker style doors but they were in the basement waiting to be painted when I took these photos. The inside of the cabinet was also awaiting paint.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

We also hung bead board on the wall behind the washer and dryer as well as installing open shelving. What is it about bead board that makes my heart happy? It’s so quaint and a such a classic design element.\u00a0 It’s extremely affordable and adds texture to an otherwise boring wall.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

I chose to go with the same shelving that I did in our breakfast nook. It’s easy to install and great on the wallet. I’ll share my tips for an easy install very soon. I love the classic touch it adds to the space. It’s almost as though it’s always been there.<\/p>\n

Lets talk the cabinet color I chose. I’m in love folks! I knew I wanted to paint the cabinets in a mushroom color of some kind. I’ve always loved muted colors and how they give off a calm vibe. I don’t tire of muted tones as quickly as I do vibrant ones. The color I had originally chosen and shared in last week’s post<\/a><\/span> was a slightly darker color called Cape May Cobblestone by Benjamin Moore. It’s a great color, just not with my laundry room lighting! As soon as I started painting the cabinet I knew it wasn’t going to do. The cabinet was coming across as purple. I immediately started looking for new options. After searching high and low online and in my paint fan decks, I decided to go with Jogging Path by Sherwin Williams and boy am I glad I did! I absolutely love it! It’s exactly what I envisioned in the room. It’s the perfect mushroom color and it just screams Martha Stewart to me. Who of which will always by my favorite. To say she’s pioneered the way in creating a quality home would be an understatement, but that’s a conversation for another day.<\/p>\n

I also got around to painting the planked ceiling white and installing simple 1×2″ ceiling trim. It looks very similar to our breakfast nook’s board and batten trim. It was something we already had on hand and since this room also serves as a work space, I thought it was appropriate.<\/p>\n

Last week I also mentioned that the flooring we were hoping to install was unavailable. I had planned on installing oak hardwood floors in a herringbone pattern. I was a nervous wreck! I started back at square one, combing the internet and every flooring company I could find for the perfect flooring. Just a couple days after my post I found the perfect flooring, even better then what I had originally planned. It’s something I have always dreamed of but thought it was out of reach. God is just awesome like that! The flooring goes in this Friday. I’ll let it be a surprise until next week. I will say this… it starts with a B and ends with a K.<\/p>\n

I can’t forget about my gorgeous faucet<\/a><\/span> that arrived from Wayfair.com<\/span> <\/a><\/p>\n

I think I’m going to be in brass heaven with this one. It’s even more beautiful in person!<\/p>\n

I also found this little gem at a local antique store earlier this week. I knew I wanted something special for the mirror above the sink but wasn’t totally sure where I would find one exactly. I had a back up plan, which consisted of the round, gold framed mirror. I’m so glad I found something this unique and special.<\/p>\n

I can’t believe it still has it’s original stain and has never been painted. Cue the dancing! She does need a little love.\u00a0 The wood is pretty dry, so I plan on going over it with a little clear wax. I can’t wait for the day to hang her up on the wall. The details of antique frames are just so stunning. I’m just so happy no one ever painted it.<\/p>\n

This next week is going to be all about installing the new floor, toilet and sink. Who knows, maybe we’ll even get to the light fixtures. I have a fun plan for the washer and dryer that I’ll keep a surprise. Let’s hope it turns out as I’m envisioning.<\/p>\n
