Oh my goodness you guys it’s finally here, the first day of the One Room Challenge<\/a><\/span>! I’m thrilled to be participating this season. I had a tough time getting my ducks in a row to be ready but I can’t wait to share our renovation process with you all!<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>A couple weeks ago I shared plans for our laundry\/powder room here on the blog. If you missed it that’s okay because plans have really changed since then and for the better.<\/p>\n

First, lets talk about this space. Our home is a traditional, brick colonial. Everything is pretty much what you’d expect for a colonial home but I’m definitely left scratching my head on this room. This is the only bathroom on the main floor so when we have guest over I always make sure to do a quick run through and make sure there isn’t any unmentionables hanging up to dry. Many of you also know the terrible state the house was in when we bought it. If not, you can go back through and see the before photos under home tour<\/a><\/span>. Between all three bathrooms we had one working sink, what we thought was one working shower and one working toilet. The working sink was not in this space. We’ve known from the beginning that the counter top, sink and faucet needed to be removed but have been waiting until we had a full plan so our guest have had to wash their hands in the kitchen sink or use our hallway bathroom upstairs.\u00a0 Not fun or sanitary! The washer and dryer has walls around them leaving a very tight and useless nook across from the toilet and it left the space feeling dark.<\/p>\n

Here is the space before we moved in. Yikes!<\/p>\n

We found the blue prints for our house in the basement shortly after we bought it. The powder room was supposed to be located in a different place entirely and this was only supposed to be the laundry room. Unfortunately, the powder room can not be relocated at this time so starting over in this space it is!<\/p>\n

I had originally planned on doing a simple update, paint the walls, trim and floor. Add curtains to the laundry closet to keep it closed off from guests but when it came down to it I just wasn’t loving the idea of keeping the walls around the washer and dryer. The space was not going to be fully functional. We decided to gut the space and take advantage of every inch. I’m so glad we did!<\/p>\n

Here’s the room after we removed the old flooring, painted the trim and walls.<\/p>\n

Here’s what the space looks like since we decided to remove the laundry closet with the exception that the studs around the washer have been removed completely and the plumbing has been relocated to the back wall behind the washer since I took this photo.<\/p>\n

Let’s talk plans. The washer and dryer are going to stay on that wall and a floor to ceiling cabinet will be built into place on the left side of the washer for added storage. Cabinets and shelving will be built above the washer and dryer as well as an added sconce for extra lighting.<\/p>\n

We’re going to plank the ceiling and install a fresh light fixture. The flooring will be a herringbone pattern in either brick or hardwoods. We’ll see!<\/p>\n

The current vanity and sink will be replaced and a new mirror will be hung. We’ll add a window covering, area rug and some pretty artwork and this room will be ready for guests!<\/p>\n

In keeping with the traditional style of our home I’m going with a timeless, classic, brass fixtures and a neutral color palette with pops of color from the rug and artwork. I’m thrilled to be partnering with Wayfair.com<\/a><\/span> for a lot of the items you see here!<\/p>\n

We have a lot to do in this space in a short time but I am so glad you’ll be here for the ride! I hope you’ll check back next week to see the progress we’ve made.<\/p>\n
