Didn’t I just share a coffee table build with you all over the summer? I sure did. It was our upholstered, tufted coffee table and you can find the plans for that here<\/a><\/span>. There are many things I love about an upholstered coffee table. They’re great for putting the old feet up and relaxing a bit and they have such a chic and elegant feel. What I found after living with it for a while was that I really missed having a solid surface to put drinks on, a surface for playing games with the family and a place to put the popcorn during a movie night. Don’t get me wrong, the large basket that I was using helped a lot but it just wasn’t quite the same. I also tried a breakfast tray and still came to the same conclusion, I wanted a regular coffee table again. So we starting planning for a DIY modern farmhouse square coffee table!

The timing couldn’t have been better because we were invited back by Kreg Tools to create another furniture build for their website BuildSomething.com<\/a><\/span>. When I started thinking up design ideas I really wanted something that had clean lines, a second shelf for magazine and book storage and a medium brown stained top. After a little planning and sketching and with our Kreg Jig<\/a><\/strong> in hand here’s what J and I came up with.<\/span><\/p>\n

A DIY Modern Farmhouse Table<\/h2>\n

It’s a 3×3′ square table, which fits our sectional perfectly! We added angled supports for a little interest and I can’t believe how much I love it! It crisp and bright but still has warmth with the stained wood top. I wanted to make sure it didn’t have an overwhelming farmhouse or rustic look, so I did not distress the bottom half. The paint color I chose was Decorators White by Benjamin Moore. It’s one of my go-to white paint colors. The top is stained first with Sun-bleached by Varathane<\/a> <\/strong>and then topped with a dark antiquing wax.<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

My basket found a new home on the shelf below. It’s the perfect place for all those things you want to keep handy but out of the way.<\/span><\/p>\n

Aside from plywood, paint and stain that we had on hand the coffee table costs under $40 in materials. You can’t beat that! One of the best things we ever did for our woodworking hobby was to purchase a<\/span> Kreg Jig<\/a><\/span><\/strong>.<\/strong> It has made so many furniture builds in our home possible.<\/span><\/p>\n
