You guys, we’re so close to December 1st I can taste it! When I say taste it, I mean the ginger bread, the hot cocoa and the yummy holiday cakes. Fall is my favorite season but Christmas is just an extension of that for me. It’s my favorite holiday by far. It has such a beautiful meaning and is huge reminder of the hope and joy we should have in the Lord!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

With December 1st at our door step let’s talk advent calendars. Maybe you have one maybe you don’t or maybe you’ve always wanted one but have never made the jump. Last year I made my first advent calendar. I have to say, I absolutely\u00a0loved it! I didn’t put a bunch of candy or gifts but instead put a card in each bag that had a fun holiday activity on it. My little boy loved it. He never knew what kind of fun thing we were going to do that day. This year I’ve switched it up a bit. My mom gave me a sewing machine for my birthday this year and I have dived head first into the world of sewing. I wish I had known how handy that little machine was going to be when it comes to home decor! This year instead of bags I sewed 25 little stockings from left over fabric and a drop cloth.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This is a great beginners project. Each stocking is small and doesn’t take much time at all. I used this stocking outline by the home goddess herself, Martha Stewart.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\"DIY<\/a><\/p>\n

I resized the stocking to the size I needed and printed the stocking outline out on card stock\u00a0and cut it out.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I used a pen to trace the stocking onto the backside of the fabric. If you’re using a patterned fabric make sure to trace your stocking with your fabric going in the same direction each time.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Cut each stocking out leaving about 1\/4 of an inch as fabric allowance.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Fold the tops down about a 1\/4 of an inch and iron. Sew a straight seem. <\/span><\/p>\n

Put both sides of the stocking together and pin them.<\/span><\/p>\n

The back side of the fabric should be showing and stitch them together. Once you’re done sewing, turn it right side out.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

You can sew a ribbon loop in or just hot glue it in place. I strung them using twin and push pins.<\/span><\/p>\n

Like last year I’m using my vintage ladder to hang them on. You could also use ribbon or twine and attach to a shelf or mantel. I chose not to number my stockings because I wanted a very simple look. I guess it’s a bit strange considering it’s a calendar but I just loved the simplicity of it. You can certainly add like tags with the date to the stockings.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Fill them with activities, candy or any other fun holiday treats. Whatever you do I know you’ll love it as much as my family does!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
