If you’re looking to switch things up on your tree or just add to what you have this year, I’m sharing some super easy ornaments that you can make yourself from things you might already have around the house. This year I’ve added a new tree to my Christmas home tour and I decided I wanted to change up the ornaments as well. The costs can rack up pretty quickly if you’re needed to decorate an entire tree. Here are some ornaments ideas that I’ve come up with –<\/span><\/p>\n

I purchased a used knitted sweater from a thrift store and a few small embroidery hoops<\/a>. Pick the part of the sweater that you want in the hoop and then cut the sweater off the hoop in the back. Add some glue to the back edges of the sweater for extra security.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Easy<\/a><\/p>\n

These clothespin stars are easy enough for even kids to help. Take apart several<\/span> clothespins<\/a> and glue or hot glue them back to back. Attach them all by gluing them together in the center. Add a coat of<\/span> white paint<\/a> and glue a little ribbon to the back and you’ve got a rustic star!<\/span><\/p>\n

These little hats maybe one of my favorite little ornaments! I made several for my son’s tree in his room. Best part, they’re non-breakable so they’re perfect for kids. Using just yarn and a paper towel roll, cut 1 1\/2″ wide pieces. Decide how long you want your hats and cut several pieces of yarn in your color or choice. Loop the yarn around the towel roll, pulling to secure. Once you’ve gone around the whole roll, push the yarn piece inside out. Secure and tie off with a piece of yarn. Trim off the excess yarn at the top. Add some red floral wire and hang!<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Easy<\/a><\/p>\n

I wish I had gotten more photos of the process of these but they’re so easy I don’t think you need. I purchased a plaid table clothe from the thrift store and also purchased some plaid fabric from the craft store. Cut the fabric into 1 1\/2″ strips that will go around the<\/span> styrofoam ball<\/a> from end to end. This will depend on the size balls you purchase. I used 4″.\u00a0 Secure each end with<\/span> flat sewing pins<\/a>. Push in a hook eye at the top and secure with hot glue. Add twin or ribbon to hang and you have a beautiful plaid ornament. Pottery Barn sells them for around $12 a piece, I made these for less than $2 a piece!<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Easy<\/a><\/p>\n

These wooden snow flakes are also very self explanatory. I purchased two packs of three unfinished snowflakes at Hobby Lobby for only $2.50. I stained them with<\/span> Special Walnut by Miniwax<\/a> and once that was dry, I added a thin coat of white acrylic paint to the top. I finished them by lightly sanding to show the stain through the paint and added some simple baker’s string.<\/span><\/p>\n

There are so many DIY ornaments that you can make to cut down on the cost of your Christmas decor. Anywhere I can save money is a win! You don’t have to break the bank to get your house Christmas ready this year. If you start now you’ve got plenty of time to have your tree all decked out with some cute and fun ornaments! <\/span><\/p>\n
