I had a much needed break this weekend. If you follow along on Instagram and Facebook you may have noticed I didn’t post anything blog related. I really just felt that I needed to take a step back for a couple days and focus on life. I forget sometimes how much renovating a home can take out of ya. We’ve had one of the busiest summers we’ve ever had. I’m sure I probably say that every year, but really we have. We currently have friends staying with us and so our renovations have slowed down a lot. However, I am happy to report that the entry way\/foyer and coat closet are complete! There were moments when I didn’t think I would ever be able to say that. <\/span><\/p>\n

You would think that the foyer would be one of the rooms that we did first because it’s the first room every one sees when they walk in. That would just make sense that it would be one of the first rooms to complete. Think again. Maybe it was the fact that we really don’t spend much time in the space, maybe that it was always the place where we’d dump our stuff when we’d walk in the door or maybe it was those second story high ceilings in the staircase. Well, it was all of them! This room was one the tedious room. It’s been such a slow process but boy was it worth it! <\/span><\/p>\n

Lets take a look at it before we started renovating-<\/span><\/p>\n

We gave the trim and walls a fresh coat of paint. We stripped the carpet off the stairs and painted them. We painted the front door and added covers to all those switches and outlets. This is one of my favorite chairs. It’s an old Windsor chair that was in our dining room until I recently moved it to the foyer. I think it’s found its forever home. <\/span><\/p>\n

We haven’t painted the lower hand rail just yet. I asked the question on IG a while back if folks thought we should paint it or not. I was really surprised that more people thought we should keep it stained instead of painting it black. I’m still leaning towards painting it but to say I’ve been procrastinating would be an understatement!<\/span><\/p>\n

I used to cringe when I would walk into our home and now I’m happy to be home. We didn’t spend a fortune in the space either, it was actually the opposite. We simply sanded the stairs down and painted them with floor paint. We kept the trim that was already there and just painted it.\u00a0 All the furniture and decor was purchased used or at an outlet store at a much cheaper price. <\/span><\/p>\n

Tomorrow I’ll be sharing our little coat closet makeover. It’s such a fun little space tucked under the stairs but it had very humble roots. You’ll have to come back tomorrow to see how it looks now!<\/span><\/p>\n
