The day has finally arrived that I get to share what just might be my favorite project ever! Today, I’m sharing our little girl’s nursery. It’s a sweet & feminine nursery that’s completely magical. In case you missed it, we’re expecting a baby girl in two weeks. Our son is 10, so this isn’t something I thought I would get to do again. You can read all the details on that in this post<\/strong><\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n

Over the last 7 months I’ve slowly pulled together the fabrics, furniture and d\u00e9cor. I wanted this nursery, once guest room, to be a sweet and calming space for Audrey and our family. After having our son and getting to experience all the boy d\u00e9cor, I wanted to take full advantage of the opportunity to use all the girly things. <\/p>\n

Audrey’s nursery is a north facing room. It can make it hard to photograph and have the colors come across as they do in person. The walls are a creamy white. I chose Swiss Coffee by Benjamin Moore in a satin finish. We used this same color in our kitchen<\/a><\/em><\/strong> and I have always loved it. I had originally planned to use a pale pink on the walls, but decided that the creamy white paired well with the cream and pink fabrics I had already purchased. I plan on going with a warmer color once she’s a little bigger. The trim is painted Svelte Sage by Sherwin Williams in a satin finish. I used this color in my office for the trim and desk area as well and love the dusty sage tone. The cream, sage and pale pink combo work beautifully together and give the perfect feminine touch to the space.

A Look Back . . .<\/em><\/h3>\n

Here’s what this room looked like when we purchased our home:<\/em>\"\"<\/p>\n

It became our guest bedroom for years and now it’s our new nursery.<\/em><\/p>\n

Instead of purchasing a new glider, we simply borrowed one from our family room and purchased a fresh slipcover for it. (You can find a link to this chair at the bottom of the post.) We used Charlie’s glider for such a short time that we didn’t see the need to invest in another one when we had this one on hand. The ottoman was purchased years ago at an antique store for $30 with the intentions that I would recover it. After years of sitting in our master bedroom closet, I’m so glad I had a reason to finally tackle it. The ottoman had great bones. It just needed some new fabric. I made the pink pleated cover with fabric leftover from the crib canopy. You can find my ottoman slipcover how-to here<\/strong><\/a>. <\/em><\/p>\n

Josh installed two shelves using simple 1×8′ boards and cheap wooden brackets from Home Depot. We used the same shelf brackets that we used in our butler’s pantry<\/em><\/strong><\/a>. I wanted a place to display a few special books, photos and stuffed animals. Everything has been collected over time from thrift stores, antique stores and gifts from friends & loved ones. <\/p>\n

For the wall d\u00e9cor, I hung two English floral plates that I picked up while in Dawsonville, Ga., along with a petite horse portrait that I’ve had on hand for years. These simple and inexpensive items add the perfect touch to this wall. <\/p>\n

After pinning several nurseries for inspiration, I found that I really gravitated to the spaces that had a crib canopy. I love the timeless elegance that canopies add to a bedroom, and I could just picture a soft pink linen fabric draping the crib. The crib and canopy instantly became the focal point of this room, and I just love that!  <\/p>\n

I made the canopy with simple pine 2×2’s in the shape of a rectangle and anchored it to the wall and studs using wood screws. I used a staple gun and air compressor to attached the fabric to the wooden frame and attached a pleated valance around the top and outside for a finishing touch. It drapes the crib perfectly and adds a little pop of color. <\/p>\n

The brass lamps are inexpensive sconces from Amazon. To dress them up I made the pleated shades with a cream and pink block print fabric that coordinated with the linen canopy fabric. I used my old lampshade tutorial<\/strong><\/a>, but opted to fold the fabric strips only once, hiding the raw fabric edge under the next strip of fabric. We chose not to hardwire these lamps in case we need to move them in the future as Audrey grows and her room evolves. I use these light bulbs<\/strong><\/a> for all of our non-wired sconces in our home. <\/p>\n

The dresser was a Facebook marketplace find that needed a little love. I used the same Svelte Sage paint color for the dresser and scalloped mirror. I wish the lighting was better, because it really is the perfect sage color for this room. I suppose updating my super old camera wouldn’t hurt either, ha! <\/p>\n

The botanical prints were purchased and downloaded from Etsy years ago and the gingham mating is homemade. I hope to have a source for the prints for you soon when I share the mating tutorial. <\/p>\n

These sweet wall shelves are a mix of store bought and DIY. The ledges were purchased from Ikea and I glued the wooden scalloped trim to the front before painting them. The scalloped edging dresses the shelves up a bit and gives them a sweet feminine feel. I’ve linked the scalloped trim at the bottom of this blog post. <\/p>\n

The wooden kid’s table was originally Charlie’s and was a yard sale find. It was still in great shape, so it just got a fresh coat of paint in Creamy by Sherwin Williams. Instead of using the wooden chairs I had originally, I went with these adorable woven chairs (linked at the bottom of the post). I love the texture and natural color they bring to the room. The cushions were DIY’ed using foam from a craft store and leftover linen fabric. I love that this table is getting a second life after so many years. <\/p>\n

While I hope to bring in more color into this room over time, the soft and serene feel is perfect for now. The warm creamy walls have the prettiest glow in the evenings and I know it’s going to be a comfort on those tiresome sleepless nights ahead. This room has come together just as I had hoped. Each piece was lovingly chosen and collected. My only hope is that Audrey will grow to love it as much as we do. <\/p>\n
