I’m thrilled\u00a0to finally share the guest bathroom that I have been working on the past few weeks. It has been a room that I have wanted to get a hold of for a while now. After a couple months of planning, I got to work. This is one of the very first rooms that I have completed solo. Typically J is right beside me working, but not this room! It took me a couple of days but I got the ship lap installed without a hitch! J was around to help install the shelving. FYI it’s exceptionally difficult\u00a0to get piping shelves up alone, if you want them level of course!<\/p>\n

Here’s the room before the remodel.<\/p>\n

Let’s count the ways to why this guest bath was so drab and dated. First of all, those walls had that terrible, 90’s texture stuff that you would mix into the paint. Awful stuff folks! Don’t do it! The light fixture was also a 90’s special. What finish was on it exactly? Last but not least, the beat up cabinet. Luckily, the cabinet is solid wood and really just needed a fresh coat of paint.<\/p>\n

\u00a0I started by deep cleaning the cabinets with a degreaser and took them outside to sand. I used 120 grit sand paper. Once the veneer was gone and the doors were smooth, I cleaned them a second time to remove all the dust. Then, they were ready to paint!<\/p>\n

I chose a color by Benjamin Moore called Boothbay Gray<\/a>.<\/p>\n

After two coats of paint, I let the cabinet dry for 24 hours before re-installing the doors.<\/p>\n

\u00a0The ship lap went up next. You only need a miter saw, jig saw, and nail gun. Make sure to measure twice and stagger your joints. I was a little intimidated at first. I’ve only installed ship lap in small areas in the past. The thought of a whole room scared me. Surprise, surprise it’s actually very simple!<\/p>\n

I chose a Benjamin Moore color called Edgecomb Gray<\/a> for the walls.<\/p>\n

Once all the crown molding and trim was re-installed, I\u00a0did my favorite part. I styled the room!<\/p>\n

After days\u00a0of shops and searching for the perfect accessories and decor, here it is!<\/p>\n

The Rub-A-Dub-Dub wooden sign was made from a 1×6″ cut to 3′ long. I painted it white and used Martha Stewart’s satin acrylic paint in Arrowhead <\/a>for the letters. I stained and nailed a 1″ trim piece all the way around the outside.<\/p>\n

I purchased everything for the pipe shelving at Home Depot. They are 1\/2″ flush and cap pieces with an 8″ long pipe piece. I put each one together, cleaned them with rubbing alcohol and spray painted them with a satin black spray paint<\/a> by Rust-Oleum. The shelf piece is a 1×8″ that I cut down to 2′ long. The cap pieces at the ends of the pipe hold the shelf tight in place. I stained the shelves and toilet paper box with a stain color called Early American<\/a> by Varathane.<\/p>\n

I love the feel in this bathroom! It has great lighting and the ship lap adds that farmhouse style that I adore. It’s laid back and cozy just like the rest of the house!<\/p>\n
