Hello friends! I can’t believe we’re already kicking off Christmas tours. The last few months have just flown by for us, but this time of year is always a bit of a whirlwind. Today I’m sharing our foyer decorated for the holidays. I just finished adding some festive touches yesterday in the hopes of creating a warm and inviting foyer for Christmas.<\/p>\n

Most years I find myself putting it all together in the final hours. To be honest with you I wasn’t really sure what direction I was going to take with our decor this year. I’ve been feeling some extra pressure this month to top last year’s decor. Thankfully over the weekend I was reminded by a dear friend that last year we sent Charlie to school, so I had so much more time to drum up ideas and decorate. We’re back to homeschooling this year and that’s just where my priorities have to be, and that’s okay. This year’s tours may not be quite as grand, but hopefully you’ll find them to be just as special. <\/p>\n

In past years I always used fresh cedar garland on our bannister. I’ve always preferred the real stuff over the fake plastic garland. That was until I stumbled across this beautiful garland at a local shop last fall. It’s some of the best faux greenery I’ve ever seen. I used it in this same spot last year and you all loved it as much as I did. (You can see last year’s foyer here<\/a>.) Josh and I found that we didn’t have to spend time each day sweeping up dried cedar needles, so that really sealed the deal for me. The faux garland just works week here and I’m okay with it. To secure it to the bannister, I use garland ties in three places. You can purchase them in most big box stores. These<\/em><\/a> are the exact ones I use each year. <\/p>\n

To keep things fresh from year to year, I like to swap out ribbon and floral picks. This year I did not buy any new Christmas decor but instead used what I already had on hand. Ribbon was the only exception. This fall I purchased this beautiful caramel velvet ribbon for 70% off from Hobby Lobby. I purchased several rolls, some in which I’m using in our primary bedroom as well. For the bannister, I paired the velvet ribbon with some cream woven ribbon from last year. Doubling up the bows adds some layers and great texture. <\/p>\n

I secured gold ornaments with floral wire to the garland in groups of twos and three. The ornaments were a Goodwill purchase years ago and have been used throughout my home ever since. I just love glass ornaments. They take on such a pretty patina as the years go by. <\/p>\n

Little sprigs of greenery here and there keep things cozy. In the past I’ve left bits of greenery throughout the winter season so that the house doesn’t feel too bare after Christmas. <\/p>\n

This is one of my favorite views each Christmas. We haven’t installed doors to our family room just yet, so it makes for a pretty view while enjoying movies and games as a family.
