Apple crumble is one of those fall desserts that I look forward to each year and never seem to get tired of. Today, I’m sharing my old fashioned apple crumble recipe.<\/p>\n

It’s a family recipe that is written down on a piece of weathered paper, with very little details included.  You won’t find what kind of apples are recommended or what size pan to use. It was truly a recipe that was memorized and made from the heart. After many years of making this dish, I’ve gotten the ingredients and pan size just right! <\/p>\n

Apples & Crumble Topping<\/em><\/h4>\n

When it comes to apple crumbles I personally prefer using Granny Smith apples. The tart apples paired with the sweet topping and ice cream are perfection together, so for this recipe I would stick with the tart apple varieties. Peeling the apples allows the apples to bake evenly and creates a better, more crispy texture. <\/p>\n

The crumble topping is a combination of quick cooking oats, brown sugar, granulated sugar, butter and cinnamon. This topping can be made in a large bowl with a pastry cutter or in a food processor. I much prefer a couple of pulses in the food processor for the sake of time. Just note – when using the processor, be sure to leave out the oats. Once the other ingredients come to a good crumble, mix in the oats by hand. This will keep the oats in tack.<\/p>\n

Baking<\/em><\/h4>\n

This recipe is baked in a large casserole dish. The dish that I like to use is equivalent to a 9″x13″ pan. You could certainly make this crumble in individual baking dishes. I would just recommend reducing the bake time. <\/p>\n
