Fall is here and it’s time to cozy things up! Here’s a few ways we’ve added warm and natural touches of fall to our living room. <\/em><\/h3>\n

I can’t believe it’s already October and it’s full on fall! Where has the time gone? Today I’ve joined a few friends to bring you our cozy living ideas for our cozy living series, hosted by my sweet friend Jennifer from Town & Country Living<\/a>. I’ve been slowly decorating this year but I thought I’d share some ways we’ve added some fall touches to create a classic fall living room. <\/p>\n

Last year I decided that I didn’t want to participate in any seasonal home tours this fall or Christmas season. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with home tours and I’ve really enjoyed them in the past. This year I just wanted to take the pressure off. This is a busy time of the year for most and last year I had a difficult time decorating before I was really ready too. I’m sure some of you have also noticed that the Christmas season, especially, seems to start earlier and easier each year. The decorating process for me began to feel so unnatural. <\/p>\n

This year I decided to take my time and decorate as I felt inspired and friends, It’s been wonderful! I’ve slowly eased our home into the autumn season and have added natural touches as I’ve felt inspired to. Over the years I’ve slowly moved away from overly decorated spaces and have opted for more simple touches. I prefer seasonal decor that can be found in nature, especially in the fall. The natural fall colors are so warm and beautiful, so I like to bring that in. <\/p>\n

Using Fabrics <\/h4>\n

I started decorating our kitchen first, you can see that here<\/strong><\/a> and I recently added some fall touches to our living room. When it comes to decorating for a new season I like to start by changing my pillow covers. I swapped out our blue and white gingham and floral pillows for warm plaids, velvets and block prints. I love playing up fabrics when decorating. We love plaid fabrics year-round but we’re always sure to break out the plaid and flannel throws in the fall. Fabrics really can set the feel for a space. <\/p>\n

Incorporating Natural Elements <\/h4>\n

Would fall really be fall without a few colorful leaves? Real florals and branches will always be my preference but it’s harder to use real leaf stems in the fall and have them keep for any length of time. Over the years I have picked up a few stems here and there that are somewhat real looking, but they can be difficult to find. I found the branches used here at Michael’s craft store a couple of years ago. I love the texture and color they add. <\/p>\n

Mums and chrysanthemums are also a great way to bring in real foliage and natural fall color. If you have a neutral colored space as we do, foliage is a great way to bring in a pop of color. <\/p>\n

For our fireplace mantel I just focused on layering items we already had with different sizes and textures. I took the vintage style wreath mirror<\/a><\/strong> I made last year for the foyer and reused it here. <\/p>\n

Our French market basket was the perfect vessel for my faux leaves and berries. I’ve really enjoyed finding different uses for this basket throughout the year. Baskets are always a great option for holding florals and foliage stems. <\/p>\n

Simple Homemade Wreaths <\/h4>\n

Some of my favorite wreaths have been the ones that I’ve made myself, like my wheat horseshoe wreath<\/strong><\/a> and this year I made a corn husk wreath. You can find that tutorial here<\/strong><\/a>. Again, incorporating natural elements for the win! The natural colors of the season are always so pretty and they can be bold or subdued, depending on which elements you choose and what color scheme you prefer. <\/p>\n

Our fall decor is simple and understated but has been the perfect touches for our family. I love how just a couple of elements can really ring the season in. How do you like to decorate for fall? Do you slowly bring in decor or do you like to get it all done at once? I’ve really enjoyed the slow down this fall. I don’t know that every year will be this way but there is something to say for not feeling pressured or rushed. I think the best things come with time and inspiration.<\/p>\n
