We took what once was a dark, dirty and dated bathroom and transformed it into a bright, fresh and cheery space! Today we’re sharing all the details on our guest bathroom reveal. <\/em><\/h4>\n

Today is the day, friends! Today is the day we finally reveal our upstairs guest bathroom. This project has been in the works for quite a while. I’m so glad that I finally get to share the finished space with you! This bathroom started out as a dark, dirty and dated space. It was a room you want to close the door to and forget but not any longer. Today it’s bright, fresh and so cheery! For the finishing touches we teamed up with are friends at Serena & Lily<\/a> to make the space extra special. <\/p>\n

Before we dive into it, let’s take a look back at what the bathroom looked like when we purchased our home. <\/p>\n

The linoleum flooring was peeling. The wallpaper had fallen in many places and the walls around the tub had quite a bit of mold. This bathroom was quite sad. <\/p>\n

We broke the remodeling process of this room up over time. Before we moved in we removed the old vanity, mirror, toilet and light fixtures. We replaced the sheetrock around the tub, removed all the mold and put a fan in for ventilation. We also installed new hex tile on the floor in a vintage black and white pattern with the hopes that it looked like it’s always been there. For the last couple of years we’ve gotten by with an inexpensive pedestal sink and light fixture and with a lot of elbow grease the tub and shower came completely clean. We replaced the old shower fixtures and have just been “living” with the dated almond color. <\/p>\n

This bathroom isn’t used too much and has been sitting half finished for quite some time now. It’s been on our list for a couple of years. Isn’t that how it normally goes? I’m thrilled that we were able to tackle it this year and get it just right. Take a look! <\/p>\n

We installed bead board painted in Simply White by Benjamin Moore for a timeless look and installed a cheerful blue poppy wallpaper<\/a><\/strong> for a pop of color and pattern. I love the mixed shades of blue paired with the bright white in this space. It’s the perfect statement for this small room. If you have a small or plain space that you want to make a statement in a good quality wallpaper is a great way to do that. We chose the Fairfax paper<\/strong><\/a> but I also loved these options – Priano wallpaper<\/a>, Larkspur wallpaper<\/a>, and the Luna Stripe wallpaper<\/a>. <\/p>\n

We used a vintage dresser that we found on craigslist a few years ago for the vanity. Josh cut and rebuilt the drawers into a U shape to allow space for the plumbing in the center. That took just one afternoon to complete. The pale blue paint color is a custom color we had made to match the wallpaper. If you can do the same by taking a small sample of your wallpaper to your local paint store for them to scan and mix the perfect color. We used a cabinet paint and sealed the top to protect against water. I absolutely love the powder blue vanity with the white bead board and shades of blue wallpaper. I think they marry each other perfectly.<\/p>\n

We chose a vessel sink for a vintage feel that fit the style of the vanity and kept in tune with the bead board and the hex tile. <\/p>\n

We kept the decor to a minimum so not to overwhelm our guests. I did not want anything too fussy not he walls or counter top. The wallpaper is the star of the show! <\/p>\n

For the window covering I chose a natural bamboo shade for the warm wood tones that it gave the room. I also chose a basket in a similar shade to hold extra toilet paper rolls. A simple tray with a delicate gold bird and one of our favorite scented candles<\/strong><\/a> sits pretty behind the toilet. It adds just the right amount of decor to this otherwise blank space. <\/p>\n

Remember that almond colored tub and shower? It’s almond no more! You can read all about how we refinished it ourselves HERE<\/strong>.<\/a> The shower curtain has a simple tassel along the edge that matches the wallpaper perfectly. You can find our French tassel shower curtain HERE<\/a><\/strong> with different tassel color options. I love how the navy blue tassels break up all of the white in this corner. If you prefer just a bit of fringe on the bottom only, this is a great shower curtain option – Healdsburg curtain.<\/a> and we used THESE<\/a> shower curtain rings. They paired perfectly with our existing shower curtain rod. <\/p>\n

The dip-dyed stool<\/strong><\/a> brings in some natural wood tones and adds warmth to the space. It’s a handy spot to place bath salts and soap for your guest before they arrive. I also love THIS<\/a> stool, which I’m considering for our powder room downstairs. For the bath mat we chose Healdsburg mat<\/strong><\/a>. It’s thick and so soft. White towels and mats really give a bathroom a real luxurious feel. <\/p>\n

Simple hooks behind the door was the perfect spot for our tassel fringe towels<\/strong><\/a>. These are some of the softest towels we’ve ever owned and the tassel fringe is a fun touch. These are also pretty towel options I love – banded boarded towels, <\/a>St. Helena towels<\/a> and the bellwort guest towels<\/a>.<\/p>\n

 We could not be happier with this bathroom now that it’s done. It was a long time in the making but I think it would so worth it. I’d say we’ve got another successful room makeover to add to the books. I hope that it’s a space that our guest will love as much as we do. It doesn’t have to be expensive or difficult to give a room a fresh look. With a little effort, creativity and time you can really transform a space.
