Fall is just a couple of days away and I’m in full autumn mode! For the past two weeks I’ve slowly been adding fall touches to our home and although I’m not quite done I thought I’d share our family room and kitchen with you for the Seasonal Simplicity tour today hosted by Krista from The Happy Housie<\/a>. In the past year or so I really started to grow tired of the rat race that blogging can be sometimes and I decided to slow down and just enjoy each season for what it is and to be present. It’s been so nice because it’s allowed me to take things as they come naturally in nature and I haven’t felt the pressure to do this or that in my decorating. I’m also secretly a huge procrastinator, ha! I’m the one who’s shopping the craft store two weeks too late and it’s all picked over. I’m sure I’m not the only one.<\/p>\n

With all of that said, as much as I would love to have a front porch full of pumpkins to share today, I don’t. Pumpkins just became available here this week and sadly they would roast outside considering it just dropped into the upper 80’s yesterday. Sadly, the fall porch will have to wait but for now I’ve got several natural gourds and greenery to welcome in the autumn season!<\/p>\n

We’ve kept out foyer simple by adding just a couple of gourds and greenery. Over the years I’ve collected quite a few preserved gourds. I love the natural colors and textures of them and being able to reuse them year after year has been great! My vintage style fall wreath mirror is a new addition this year. Our family room has been glowing the last few days. I don’t know if it’s because the trees outside have just a touch of yellow to them or if it’s from all of the warm pumpkins and gourds in the space. Either way I’m loving the warmth! Again simple is the key here. I wanted the mantel to be the focal point. You can see the step by step to our layered mantel here<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

I brought in pops of color with plaid and rich brown throw pillows. I wanted to keep the room warm and cozy but without being too fussy.<\/p>\n

This is my favorite little nook in the back of our family room. It gets the best natural lighting and it’s become the coziest reading spot. I incorporated some faux mixed with real greenery for a little fall color.<\/p>\n

Our breakfast nook has some of the same faux foliage stems as our family room to keeps things flowing. Fall and Christmas are really the only times that I bring in touches of red. I love the color these berry stems add to the room!<\/p>\n

Some simple boo pumpkins, wheat and greenery give the room a festive feel without going over the top.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Naturally we’re covered up with apples this time of the year. We make an annual picking trip up north a little ways and from here to Christmas I’ll be pumping out the apple goodies. This week we’ve been indulging in these apple cider cinnamon rolls. They’re a family favorite and I’ll be sharing the recipe next week, be sure to check back in because it’s a must make for the season.<\/p>\n
