This week I could smell fall in the air and the trees are just barely starting to turn. I can’t wait for the cooler weather and all of the yummy soup recipes! Until then I’m sharing our fall mantel with classic colors. I hope that it inspires you to bring a little fall into your home too!<\/em><\/h3>\n

We are well on our way to a fall home. Its safe to say that we’ve kicked off the season this week by putting away our summer items and filling those spaces with natural fall decor. I’m really loving the change in colors and textures. Today I’ve joined a few friends to share our fall mantels and vignettes hosted by Krista from The Happy Housie<\/a>.<\/p>\n

You all know my love of all things classic and timeless. It’s no surprise that I stuck with traditional fall colors. Orange isn’t for everyone but I honestly love it this time of year, muted orange that is. When I think of fall I think of the reds, yellows, browns and oranges of the leaves and of course, pumpkins and gourds. My fall mantel this year is my version of bringing those things found in nature in. Here’s what I ended up with –<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

The soft oranges, browns and off-whites fit right in with the soft tones of our family room. They give our mantel just the right amount of pop!<\/p>\n

Each season I like to gather up the items I plan on using in a large basket for easy styling. I used several dried gourds that I’ve collected over the years from antique markets. I normally spend just $2-$5 on each and they keep year after year. You can see where I used them in our foyer here<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

This year I decided to go with faux leaf stems. In past years I’ve always used real foliage (always my first preference) but this has been a very busy year for us and I just didn’t want to deal with it. I used these muted stems that I found at our local craft store. Up close it’s clear they’re fake but from a distance they look quite nice. I also love to incorporate a few boo pumpkins in that I pick up at Trader Joes as well as a couple of brown vine pumpkins.<\/p>\n

I used two leaf stems in each urn and to get them to stand up straight I folded up the bottom of the stem. It creates a nice tight fit and it gives them a nice height.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

I always start with a clean slate. I place my end pieces and center item first. I prefer a balanced look personally.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

For a stacked look I placed the boo pumpkins on brass candle sticks. This gives the mantel a nice full look.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Last, fill in with smaller pumpkins and candles for a warm ambiance.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

You don’t have to raid a craft store to create a festive mantel. You just might have everything you need on hand already!
