Today is reveal day! Our master bathroom has gone from dark and dated to a bright and elegant space that I never want to leave! Here’s our elegant & timeless bathroom makeover.\u00a0<\/em><\/h3>\n

I can’t believe this day has finally arrived. It’s reveal day, friends! Ever since we started renovation on our master bathroom over three months ago, I have dreamed of the day I would get to share the reveal with you guys. After months of hard work and more sleepless nights than I care to admit today is the day I’ve been waiting for. In these last few months our master bathroom has gone from a dark and dated room that I couldn’t wait to get out of to a bright and elegant space that I never want to leave!<\/p>\n

With all of that said, let’s get to it!<\/p>\n

Let’s just take a quick look back at this room when we purchased our home. Keep in mind besides cleaning it extensively, removing the wallpaper and fixing the broken toilet and sink, this bathroom has stayed exactly the same for the last three and a half years that we’ve lived here. It was a “living with it” situation. We knew that it would be a huge undertaking to make it what we wanted. If you’ve been following my blog for a while you know that we do all of the work ourselves. This saves us big bucks and we secretly enjoy it but it is also very hard work and extremely time consuming. We knew before we started this project it was going to be a labor of love. You can see our first ORC post and design plan here<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Look at that sad vanity and vinyl floor. The room backs up to the woods and was very dark. The wall dividing the tub and toilet prevented natural light from flowing through the room and made it feel cut off and small. One of my priorities for this room was to move the toilet to a more private space. I hated that it was the first thing you saw when you walked in and if the bathroom door was ever left open you had a nice little view of it from bed. Gross. It was the stuff dreams are made of friends, ha!<\/p>\n

I’m sure the tub was great back in it’s day but today it just seemed to take up most space than needed, the almond color had seen better days and because of it’s awkward shape it was quite shallow, no soaker tub here.<\/p>\n

The shower might have been worse. It was in the back of the bathroom and was extremely narrow and long. It was extremely dark and the peach tile had to go. It also did not slope to the drain properly so for three years we had to squeegee the floor while showering to prevent water from sitting along the back wall and leaking into our living room below. Nothing felt better than when I said sayonara to that squeegee!<\/p>\n

Even though we had to live with a dated and dark bathroom and squeegee the shower every day it was all worth it because it got us here. Our squeegee days are finally over, friends! Here is our dream bathroom.<\/p>\n

I wanted this space to be a mix of vintage charm, light neutral colors with warm wood tones and refined finishes.<\/p>\n

We started by removing the wall between the vanity area and tub to open up the room. It immediately felt brighter. Josh moved and redid all of the plumbing. There\u2019s not much he can\u2019t do these days! We installed floor to ceiling bead board and planked the ceiling for that charming vintage feel.<\/p>\n

Early on in the renovation I came across the vanity and marble counter top on Craigslist. It was a steal of a deal and in great condition. It is by far one of my best finds to date. It fills the wall perfectly and gives the room the warmth that I envisioned. My wonderful brother-in-law help Josh and I pick it up and get it into our home. It’s extremely heavy and quite large. It has only one sink which is actually what I wanted. We’ve never had a situation where we needed two sinks. We don’t get ready at the same time each day, so this allows us to have more counter space, which I love.<\/p>\n

The gorgeous rubbed brass sconces are by Hudson Valley Lighting<\/a><\/strong>. They’re part of the Logan<\/a><\/strong> sconce line. From the moment I saw them I knew they would be perfect for this wall. They’re such timeless fixtures and really give the space the elegance I wanted. They also come as a single light as well.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

When we open the bathroom door instead of being greeting by an almond color toilet we have towel hooks. We made sure to make them close enough to the tub to grab easily.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Where the dated garden tub once sat is now a classic claw foot tub from Vintage Tub & Bath<\/a><\/strong>. Instead of keeping the tiny shower, we opted to use that space as a water closet and have a tub and shower combo<\/a>. I love the vintage look of it and it’s super functional. It doesn’t get much better than sliding into a large soaking tub and taking in our new space. I’ll share more details about the tub and how we made our little shelf for storing shampoos, soap, etc. next week on the blog.<\/p>\n

Josh and I for as long as I can remember had always wanted a pocket door. I’ve always thought they were so cool and extremely functional. We knew it would be a great option for the water closet due to our limited space. One problem, we had never installed a pocket door before. That didn’t store use from buying one though, ha! My dear father-in-law came to our rescue and helped Josh install it from start to finish. It took just under two days to build the wall separating the spaces and to install the door. I for one think they did an amazing job. That door slides like butter. The child in me just wants to slide the door open and close as much as possible. Now, if I could just talk Josh into installing them elsewhere in the house.<\/p>\n

The water closet is a smaller space so I thought it would be fun to only take the bead board up the wall at 5 ft. and install a English county style wallpaper. While hunting for the perfect paper I came across this Paris rose paper<\/a> from Cabbages & Roses in London.\u00a0 I instantly feel in love! I had already ordered several wallpaper samples but I just knew this was the one. I didn’t have quite enough time to order a sample so I just went for it. I wouldn’t recommend it because lighting on computer monitors and be deceiving but in this case it all worked out. The paper is just as gorgeous in person as it is online. When I ordered the paper I messages C&R that I was a little concerned about it making it to me with enough time to install it before the ORC reveal. They called me right away and assured me that it would go out that day and would make it from London to Ga. with plenty of time to install. I was so thrilled to see it less than two weeks later!<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

One of my absolute favorite things about our new bathroom are the marble floors. We said see ya to the old vinyl and hello to this gorgeous Hampton Carrara marble from The Tile Shop<\/a><\/strong>. We made a visit to the Marietta location<\/a> and I quickly feel in love with their marble options. The store manager, Van answered all of my questions and even walked me through the process of laying the under-layment and tile. I had originally wanted hex tile in the entire bathroom but quickly realized that it was going to be too busy for our taste. I opted to use the marble hex<\/a><\/strong> in the water closet and chose the same marble just in a 4×12″ tile<\/a> <\/strong>for the rest of the bathroom.<\/p>\n

Last week I shared how I installed the 4×12″ Carrara tile in a herringbone pattern. You can read that post here<\/a><\/strong>. I have always loved the herringbone pattern and was really excited to tackle this aspect of the bathroom. I thought it would be more difficult than it was. I installed it while Josh was at work last week and was surprised at how easily I was able to install it. I thought for sure that I would have to stop part way and wait for him to get home from work to help. I’m happy to report that wasn’t the case. The floors turned out beautifully, even if I was up until 2 a.m. finishing them.<\/p>\n

I’ve always loved the look of antique and vintage cabinets in bathrooms. Before we didn’t really have a place for one. With the new layout the wall across from the tub works perfectly. I found this cabinet at a local antique store for a great price. I loved its petite size and it’s rich color, not to mention it just happened to match the vanity perfectly. We’re using it to store extra towels and toiletries. A basket on top hold extra toilet paper for the water closet.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

I used new and old items to style with. One of my antique ironstone pieces is being used to hold bath utensils and an old sail boat print incorporates some pail blues and greens into the space.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

We’re absolutely thrilled with our new bathroom. It turned out just as we had hoped. We’re exhausted and a little worse for wear but we’re pleased. The last couple of months have been difficult in our personal lives. Isn’t that how it always goes? As soon as we started the demo process we were met with all kinds of crazy events. Josh and I have joked many times that someone really didn’t want us to finish this bathroom but God was with us through it all and gave us the will power and strength to get it done. This summer is going to be all about recharging and I’m sure it’ll be filled with lots of relaxing baths in our new tub. We’re beyond grateful for this space and I hope that you find inspiration in it. I think its a great example that no matter what your space is currently there’s hope and with a little effort you can make it into something you truly love. Have a wonderful weekend!<\/p>\n
