Wow, what a week! It was full of unexpected ups and downs. My dear little civic that I’ve had for 15 years finally kicked the bucket. It was a graduation gift, drove me to my wedding, brought Charlie home from the hospital, went with us to three different houses and took us on many memorable vacations. I’ll admit I shed a couple of tears when we had to let is go. It served us well. We’ve been car shopping the last few days and boy has it been exhausting! I’m happy to report that we found something that is beautiful and will meet our needs at this stage in our lives. With all of that going on we’ve still had our master bathroom renovation in the works. To say it’s been a bit stressful would be an understatement! I do have some good news though. I finally made a tile choice and I couldn’t love it more! I also made a paint color decision and today for our One Room Challenge post I’m going to share what we’ve chose.<\/p>\n

I originally had my heart set on a classic hex tile. They’re timeless and I loved the marble and the polished white hex. Once the bead board was installed I quickly noticed just how busy the room was going to be. Between the small hex and the bead board grooves, there was just going to be too many lines. Our bathroom is a good size and it was just big enough to be too much for me. I then proceeded to take two weeks to agonize over every single flooring option. I brought in sample after sample. I’m pretty sure Josh thought I had lost my mind. When it comes to the tile floor I wanted something classic, neutral and timeless. I’m so glad I came across the Hampton Carrara subway tile<\/a> while shopping at The Tile Shop<\/a><\/strong>. It’s a 4×12″ floor tile that we’re going to lay in a herringbone pattern in the main bathroom space. The water closet is going to be fun because we’re going to take the same 4×12″ tile and use it as a boarder with the Hampton Carrara hex tile <\/a>in the center. The water closet is a small space, just perfect for some hex tile.<\/p>\n

The Hampton Carrara has gray, white and brown tones. I love that we wont be locked into a cool or warm shade. We can go in either direction. The Hampton Carrara hex tile for the water closet is the same as well. They’re going to pair together beautifully! Both are very elegant and timeless, just what I want for our space. We hope to get the flooring installed this coming week. Once the tile goes in we’ll begin putting the room back together!<\/p>\n

Let’s talk paint colors! Last week I shared a few of my favorite warm white colors<\/a>. I sampled each color on our bathroom walls and checked them in the morning light, afternoon and evening. I was able to narrow it down to Simply White and White Heron by Benjamin Moore. In the end I decided to go with Simply White. It’s one of my all time favorite white paint colors. I’ve used it in our family room, my office and our guest bedroom. It’s a warm creamy white. I want to make sure that our bathroom doesn’t feel too sterile and stark. Simply White is going to be just perfect.<\/p>\n

Here’s a look at Simply White in our family room. Just as the walls and trim are painted here the walls, trim and ceiling will also be painted all in the same color.<\/p>\n

\"Classic<\/p>\n

With the exception of painting the ceiling and walls in the bathroom, there hasn’t been much change. We have however made several decisions such as, paint color, tile choice, vanity mirror size and I’m currently working on shower curtain and window treatment options. I ordered the wallpaper for the water closet and it’s on its way from England. I’ll share more on that later. I also found the sweetest vintage European etchings to hang in the space at one of my favorite antique stores last week. I can’t wait to show them to you! The tile should be in soon and we’ll be busy with that for a couple of days. I can’t wait to say goodbye to the dusty sub floor and hello to the beautiful marble we chose.<\/p>\n

Here’s what is left in our renovation:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Install tile flooring.<\/li>\n
  2. Hang wallpaper in the water closet.<\/li>\n
  3. Install vanity & vanity mirror.<\/li>\n
  4. Hang sconce lighting.<\/li>\n
  5. Install new tub, shower and toilet.<\/li>\n
  6. Paint & trim out the pocket door.<\/li>\n
  7. Shop for finishing touches (toilet rod or hooks, fresh towels, shower curtain, rug).<\/li>\n
  8. Decorate!<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    We’re half way through but we still have a lot to do. It’s been a long process so far but I’m starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Next week I hope to have several updated photos of the room and hopefully reveal our wallpaper choice. Be sure to take a look at the other renovations going on at the One Room Challenge link up<\/a>.
