Today is one of my favorite days of the year. It’s the start to the holiday season here on the blog, which means it’s time for the annual Christmas home tour. I’m thrilled to be joining such a talented group of friends for the Holiday Homes Tour hosted by my sweet friends at 11 Magnolia Lane<\/a> and Evolution of Style<\/a>. It wouldn’t be the Christmas season in our home without a little fresh garland. We like to keep our foyer simple and clutter-free. Some cedar garland and satin ribbon is all that’s needed to add a holiday touch to this room. You guys all know my love of mercury glass. I found this beautiful glass ball garland<\/a><\/strong> this year and it has been the perfect extra touch to our staircase. Who doesn’t like a little sparkle?<\/p>\n

Over the summer I found that sweet little hanging basket at an antique market and it’s been holding keys, hats, etc. since. I thought it would be such a cute spot for a mini tree.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Our family room is all dressed in natural greens, browns, gold and silver. Our wreaths, Nativity scene and ornaments were the only decor items I took down from our attic this year. I absolutely love this time of the year but I wasn’t feeling all of the stuff. I donated quite a few items last year and this year will not be any different. I really like to keep our seasonal decor to be simple and subtle.<\/p>\n

Our warmer blankets all made their way out of the linen closets. There are few things that I like more than a pretty knitted throw! I recently found this over-sized vintage basket at one of my favorite antique stores. I’m a sucker for a good basket. This one was perfect for our upholstered coffee table. (You can find my tutorial for the ticking stripe ottoman cover here<\/a><\/strong>.)<\/p>\n

I made these pillow covers recently from these cotton napkins<\/a><\/strong> sold by Jenny Steffens Hobick and cream ticking stripe fabric. I love the natural colors and the block pattern is simple yet elegant. They’ll take us right into winter and then spring. Gotta love those items that are useful for multiple seasons!<\/p>\n

Our tree is decorated simply with mercury glass and vintage style ornaments that I’ve been collecting over the last 12 years Josh and I have been married. Last year I added some antique candle holders that I purchased from a woman in Germany. Although we don’t light the candles, I love the vintage touch they add. You can see where I’ve use the same clip-on candle holders here<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n

A fresh boxwood wreath and satin ribbon is a easy and elegant touch to the mantel. I usually dress the mantel with garland. This year I wanted to do something a little different. The live wreath is in keeping with our traditional home and balances the glam of the glass balls perfectly.<\/p>\n
