This DIY fall wheat wreath keeps things simple and classic with its horseshoe shape and still brings in the natural fall elements.\u00a0<\/em><\/h2>\n

It’s September which means it’s officially a go on the fall decorating! I’ve shared my love of fall and all things that it encompasses it with you. The natural elements of fall are what I love most, pumpkins, gourds, the warm colors of the leaves and golden wheat stocks. Last year I kept our fall decor very simple and this year will not be any different. I look at it as a chance to bring the outside in and to enjoy the season as it progresses. Our home hasn’t welcomed any pumpkins just yet but I did recently finish up a wheat wreath for our kitchen to go above our range hood. This is a space I always have fun with during the holidays. It’s the perfect little square for a pretty swag or wreath. I’m so thrilled I get to share our fall wreath with you today along with some blogging friends of mine for the Seasonal Simplicity Fall series hosted by the talented Krista from The Happy Housie<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Last fall I made a large and full wheat wreath for our front door. The golden color of the wheat with our soft blue\/gray door was quite lovely. This year I wanted to bring some of those wheat stocks inside. I decided that they would look mighty handsome hanging on our range hood. Instead of a round wreath I opted for a horseshoe style for something a little different yet timeless. Years ago I remember seeing a photo of Martha Stewart’s Turkey Hill home in the fall and there was this simple yet gorgeous horseshoe shaped wheat wreath. It’s always stuck with me and this year I decided it was time to make one of my own. It didn’t take me long to decide how to construct it and it was very affordable to make. We just love the natural fall feel it adds to our kitchen.<\/p>\n

What you need:<\/h3>\n

1 – 12″ Wire wreath form<\/a><\/p>\n

2 Wheat bundles<\/p>\n

Floral wire<\/a><\/p>\n

Ribbon of choice<\/p>\n

Here’s how you can make your own:<\/h3>\n

I started by cutting off the top portion, about 8″ out using heavy duty wire cutters.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

I removed the outer and inner wires by opening the clamps on the sides. This will make your wreath form more narrow and wont require as much wheat to fill in the wreath. I used wire cutters again to snip the clamps off.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

I took 8-10 wheat stems and bunched them together using floral wire cut to about 6-8 inches in length. Red wire is what I had on hand. Ideally your wire shouldn’t show, so no need to worry about it being a particular color. Once the wire is wrapped around the wheat, cut the wheat stocks back leaving about a 1\/2 inch of stock on the end.<\/p>\n

Use the ends of the wire to wrap around your wreath form.<\/p>\n

Attach all of your bundles of wheat to the wreath working your way from the top to the bottom. I originally started at the bottom of the wreath and quickly realized it was much easier to attach each bundle from the top down.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Once you’ve made it to the bottom on each side, leave a small gap for your ribbon. I used a 1 1\/2 inch satin ribbon, tied in a simple bow. I attached it to the wreath form using floral wire.<\/p>\n

Once the bow is attached you’re ready to hang it! I used two 3M hooks to hang mine.<\/p>\n

I can’t think of a better way to welcome fall than with a pretty wreath! I love the horseshoe shape. It’s such a simple yet classic look for the upcoming season and not something you would typically see in stores.<\/p>\n
